Get Otterly Creative: Turning Art into Fun Activities!
Otter coloring pages are more than just coloring—kids can turn them into fun crafts, learning games, and amazing water adventures. Here are some playful otter activity ideas:
Build an “Otter River Slide” Scene
- Color an otter page of an otter sliding or swimming.
- Glue it onto blue or green paper.
- Draw a big, muddy slide, some river rocks, and tall grass around the otter.
- Hang it up for a wild river display.
Create a “Holding Paws” Wall Art
- Color two otters.
- Cut them out and attach them near each other on a background that looks like water.
- Add a border of shells, sequins, or drawn bubbles.
- This makes a sweet friendship or family poster!
Make an Otter Puppet Show
- Color several otters in different poses (swimming, sleeping, sliding).
- Carefully cut them out and tape them to craft sticks or straws.
- Use a table turned on its side as a stage and act out an otter’s day in the river or ocean.
Design “Lunchtime” Place Mats
- Color an otter page of an otter with a clam or fish.
- Write the name of the food next to it.
- Laminate the page or cover it with clear contact paper.
- Use your special otter mat for dinner time!
Otter Nature Scavenger Hunt
- Color and cut out an otter.
- Hide the cut-out otter somewhere inside or in the yard.
- Write clues (like “find the otter near something green” or “the otter is next to something soft”).
- Have friends or family follow the clues to find the hidden otter!
Make a Mud Slide Track
- Color the otter sliding page.
- Use a long piece of brown or green construction paper to draw a muddy river bank slide.
- Cut out the otter and race it down the paper slide, seeing which one slides fastest!
Create a Floating Otter Raft
- Color an otter page that shows the otter floating on its back.
- Cut it out and glue a small piece of lightweight foam or cork to the back.
- See if your paper otter can really float in a bathtub or sink like a sea otter in a “raft“!
Otter’s Furry Texture Art
- Color an otter, focusing on its thick fur.
- Use brown or gray yarn, cotton balls, or soft fabric scraps.
- Glue the fuzzy materials onto the otter’s body to give it a fluffy, warm texture, just like its real coat that keeps it dry.
River vs. Ocean Habitat Sort
- Color river and sea otter coloring pages.
- Draw two large circles on a piece of poster board: label one “River” and one “Ocean.”
- Have your child sort the cut-out otters into the right homes to learn where each type lives.
The Cozy Holt Den
- Color an otter curled up sleeping or resting.
- Use a small box or a brown paper bag and decorate it with real twigs, moss, or paper leaves.
- This is the otter’s den, called a “holt.” Place your colored otter inside for a warm nap!
