Once they are colored, these crab sheets can become a part of many fun crafts and games! Use your imagination to make your crab jump off the page. Here are a few things to try:

Claw Puppet Show:

  1. Color and cut out a crab (make sure the claws are big!).
  2. Glue or tape the crab body to a craft stick or cardboard tube.
  3. Put your fingers through the pincers and wiggle them while telling a story about a crab named Pinchy!

Rocking Crab Craft:

  1. Color a round, simple crab picture.
  2. Glue the picture onto a piece of cardstock.
  3. Cut out the shape and fold a small, thin strip of paper into a spring (accordion fold).
  4. Glue the spring to the back of the crab’s body. When you touch it, the crab will rock and wobble, like it’s walking on the sand!

Crab Shell Texture Art:

  1. After coloring the crab, spread a thin layer of glue only on the shell area.
  2. Sprinkle fine sand, tiny pieces of colorful paper, or even crushed eggshells onto the glue.
  3. Once dry, this gives the crab a rough, realistic shell texture that is fun to touch.

DIY Paper Plate Crab Pincers:

  1. Color two small crab pincers from one of the coloring pages.
  2. Cut the center out of two paper plates (leaving just the rim) and paint them red or orange.
  3. Glue your colored pincers onto the rims of the plates.
  4. The child can then hold the rims and pretend to “snap” the big claws!

Beach Diorama Box:

  1. Use an old shoebox turned on its side.
  2. Paint the bottom yellow for sand and the back blue for the ocean.
  3. Color and cut out several crabs, shells, and sea plants.
  4. Glue the cut-outs inside the box to create a miniature beach scene for your crabs to live in.

Pinching Pincer Game:

  1. Color and cut out a crab page with large, clear pincers (claws).
  2. Carefully cut out the pincer shapes separately.
  3. Tape or glue a piece of string or yarn between the tips of the cut-out pincers.
  4. Challenge your child to use the pincers to grab small items, like pom-poms or cotton balls, showing how a crab uses its powerful claws!

Sideways Scuttle Relay:

  1. Color and cut out a few crab pictures.
  2. Place the colored crabs on the floor.
  3. Have your child practice scuttling sideways (like a crab) across the room to pick up and move the crab pictures one by one. This is a fun way to get them moving!

Crab Shell Counting:

  1. Color and cut out several small crab pictures.
  2. Write a number (1-10) on the back of each one.
  3. Have your child count the legs (all crabs have ten!) on the pictures, and then arrange the pictures in numerical order.

DIY Hermit Crab Shell:

  1. Color and cut out the hermit crab page.
  2. Roll the coloring page into a cone shape and tape it to create a 3D shell.
  3. Pretend the shell is too small and help the crab “move” into a bigger house, like a shoe box or a paper bag, teaching about hermit crab habits.

Shadow Puppet Sea Life:

  1. Color a simple crab in a dark color (like black or brown) and cut it out.
  2. Tape a craft stick to the back.
  3. Use a flashlight and a plain wall to put on a crab shadow puppet show! You can also color other ocean friends to join the show.
