Start by drawing lightly so that you can easily erase if there are mistakes. Continue by following the arrow step.

Step 1: Draw the Sheep’s Head and Wool Top

Start by drawing a rounded, somewhat oval shape for the sheep’s face. On top of this oval, draw a fluffy, cloud-like shape for the wool on its head.

Step 2: Add the Fluffy Body and Ears

Now, let’s give our sheep its fluffy body! Around the head shape, draw a large, cloud-like outline for the woolly body. It should connect smoothly to the head.

On either side of the head, inside the woolly body outline, draw two oval shapes for the ears, slightly pointed at the ends.

Step 3: Draw the Legs and hooves

For the legs, draw three short, rectangular shapes extending downwards from the bottom of the woolly body. Make them fairly short and sturdy. Add small, rounded hoof-like shapes at the bottom of each leg.

Step 4: Add the Sheep’s Face Details

Let’s give our sheep a friendly face!

  • Inside the head outline, draw two medium-sized, oval shapes for the eyes.
  • Above each eye, draw a short, curved line for the eyebrows, giving your sheep a sweet expression.
  • Below the eyes, draw a small, upside-down triangle shape for the nose.
  • Under the nose, draw a small, curved line for a friendly smile.

Time to bring your sheep to life with color! Our example sheep has a yellow-orange woolly body. You can color the wool white, cream, or even a light grey! The face and ears can be a light pink or brown. Color the eyes and mouth black.

How to Fix Common Sheep Drawing Mistakes

  • Body Not Fluffy Enough: The main characteristic of a sheep is its fluffy wool! If your body outline looks too smooth or plain, go back to Step 2 and add more cloud-like, wavy lines to make it really woolly.
  • Head Too Small/Big: Make sure the head is proportionate to the body. If it looks tiny or giant, adjust the oval shape from Step 1.
  • Legs Too Long/Thin: Sheep have relatively short and sturdy legs. If yours look too long or skinny, refer to Step 3 and shorten and thicken them.
  • Missing Ear Detail: The ears are important! If they’re missing or just stick straight out, remember to draw the oval shapes inside the wool from Step 2.
  • Face Details Off-Center: For a cute look, try to keep the eyes, nose, and mouth centered and balanced on the face.

Helpful Drawing Tips and Tricks For Kids

  • Cloudy Lines for Wool: When drawing the wool, think of drawing little clouds. Lots of rounded bumps make it look fluffy!
  • Symmetry is Key: Try to make both sides of your sheep, especially the ears and eyes, look similar.
  • Simple Shapes First: Start with the basic oval and cloud shapes. It’s easier to add details later.
  • Express Yourself: Once you’ve got the basic sheep down, you can experiment with different facial expressions or even add a flower behind its ear!
  • Practice Makes Ewe-perfect: Don’t worry if your first sheep isn’t perfect. The more you practice, the better you’ll become!
