Easy 6-Step Jellyfish Drawing + Free PDF Practice Guide
Follow these six simple steps to draw a cute cartoon jellyfish!
Drawing Materials
- Paper
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
- Our Jellyfish Drawing Guide PDF Worksheet (see bottom of lesson)
Start by drawing lightly so that you can easily erase if you make any mistakes.
Step 1: Draw the Head Outline
Start by drawing a large, slightly flattened circle for the jellyfish’s head (the bell).

Step 2: Draw the Jellyfish’s Tentacles
Draw three wavy lines hanging down from the bottom center of the head for the tentacles. Make them curvy and smooth to look like they are floating in the water.

Step 3: Add the Remaining Tentacles
Draw four more wavy lines—two on the left and two on the right—to complete the set. These tentacles should curve slightly outward to give the jellyfish a full, drifting look.

Step 4: Draw Spots and Details
Draw four small ovals or circles along the top of the head for a colorful pattern.
Add tiny curved lines on the right side of the head for a friendly look.

Step 5: Add Face Details
Let’s give our jellyfish a cute face!
- Draw two large circles with tiny dots inside for eyes and pupils to make your jellyfish look friendly.
- Add two small, thin curved lines above the eyes for eyebrows.
- Draw a wide curved line for a smile in the center of the face.
- Finish with two small ovals on either side of the smile for rosy cheeks.

Step 6: Color Your Friendly Jellyfish!
Time to add color! You can use bright pink or purple. Color the main body and tentacles a lighter shade, fill the spots with a darker color, and give it some bright pink circles for the cheeks.

How to Fix Common Jellyfish Drawing Mistakes
Even the best artists make mistakes sometimes! Here is how to fix some common issues when drawing your jellyfish:
- Head Shape: If the head looks too tall, try squishing the circle in Step 1 so it looks more like a soft dome.
- Tentacle Spacing: If the tentacles look too crowded, ensure you leave space in the middle during Step 2 before adding the side ones.
- Spot Placement: Make sure the spots in Step 4 follow the curve of the top of the head so they look like they are part of the bell.
- Face Centering: If the face looks lopsided, try drawing the eyes first in Step 5 and then centering the smile right between them.
Helpful Jellyfish Drawing Tips and Tricks For Kids
These simple tricks will help your jellyfish drawing look more professional and lively:
- Use Light Pencil Strokes: Draw the circle and tentacles lightly at first so you can easily erase any lines you don’t like.
- Wavy Lines: Use gentle, continuous S-curves to draw the tentacles to make them look fluid and realistic.
- Highlight the Eyes: Leave a tiny white dot in the pupils to make the eyes look shiny and wet.
- Color Shading: When coloring, use a slightly darker color at the top of the head to make it look round and three-dimensional.
