Elephant-astic Activities To Do with These Coloring Pages
Ready for some jumbo fun? Once you’ve colored your elephants with every shade imaginable, the fun doesn’t have to stop! We’ve gathered some trunk-tastic ideas for games and crafts to turn your masterpieces into brand-new adventures. Grab your scissors, glue, and paper, and let’s get busy!
Elephant Trunk Streamer
- Color and cut out a large elephant face, leaving the trunk blank.
- Punch a hole at the end of where the trunk should be.
- Attach a long piece of crepe paper or streamer to the hole.
- Your child can then wave the elephant, making the streamer flow like a long trunk.
Peanut Shell Texture
- Color a simple elephant outline.
- Spread glue over the body area of the elephant.
- Carefully press crushed, empty peanut shells onto the glue.
- Once dry, the elephant will have a rough, bumpy texture like real elephant skin.
Elephant Memory Match
- Color two identical elephant coloring pages.
- Cut both pages into three or four large, matching puzzle pieces (trunk, ears, body).
- Mix all the pieces and have your child use the elephant’s famous memory to match the two identical pieces together.
Big Ear Fan
- Color the elephant with flapping ears coloring page, or any other page that emphasizes the ears.
- Glue the paper onto stiff cardboard.
- Cut out the elephant’s head shape.
- Punch a hole at the bottom and attach a stick or straw for a handle.
- Your child can then wave the head to use the ears as a fan, just like a real elephant.
Water Spray Painting
- Color the elephant spraying water coloring page.
- Fill a spray bottle with water and a tiny bit of blue food coloring.
- Have your child use the spray bottle (mimicking a trunk) to spray “water” onto the page, creating a fun, misty effect.
Elephant Parade Chain
- Color several simple elephant outlines.
- Cut them out, making sure they are facing the same direction.
- Use glue or tape to attach the tail of one elephant to the trunk of the next.
- Create a long, colorful elephant parade chain to hang across a room.
Elephant Height Chart
- Color a tall, standing elephant picture.
- Glue the picture onto a long piece of butcher paper or cardboard.
- Mark heights next to the elephant to create a growth chart for stuffed animals or toy figures.
Weighing the Elephant
- Color and cut out a single, large elephant.
- Have your child practice using a balance scale (or a simple seesaw toy).
- Use the cutout elephant on one side and challenge your child to find how many blocks or pennies are needed to balance the elephant, teaching simple weight concepts.
Elephant Sand Texture
- Color the Family of elephants walking across the savannah coloring page.
- Spread glue only over the ground area of the picture.
- Sprinkle fine, clean sand over the glue to give the ground a realistic, gritty texture.
The Long Trunk Maze
- Color a page featuring an elephant’s head and trunk.
- Use a simple line drawing to create a maze that follows the path of the elephant’s trunk.
- Your child can use a crayon to trace the trunk all the way to the tip without getting lost.
