Start by drawing lightly so that you can easily erase if you make any mistakes.

Step 1: Draw the Dinosaur’s Head Outline

Start by drawing a rounded shape, almost like a bumpy oval, with a slight curve on the left side and a small bump on the right for the dinosaur’s snout.

Step 2: Add the Body and Tail

From the head, draw a long, curved line that goes down and then curves up to create the dinosaur’s body and long tail.

Step 3: Draw the Legs and Arms

From the bottom of the body, draw a few curved lines for the dinosaur’s legs. At the bottom of each leg, add a small, rounded triangle shape for the paws. From the front of the body, draw two small, curved lines for the dinosaur’s tiny front arms.

Erase any part of the body outline where the legs and arms attach to make it look connected.

Step 4: Draw The Dinosaur’s Spikes

This is where the dinosaur gets its spiky look! Draw a series of pointed, rounded shapes along the dinosaur’s back and tail.

Step 5: Add the Dinosaur’s Face Details

Let’s give our dinosaur a friendly face!

  • On the head, draw a small, round dot for the eye.
  • Below the eye, add two very small dots for the nostrils.
  • Add a small, curved line for the mouth.
  • Inside the mouth, draw a line of small, pointy triangles for the teeth.

Step 6: Color Your Dinosaur!

Now, it’s time to add color! Dinosaurs are often shown in shades of green, but you can also make them yellow, brown, or even purple! For the spikes, you can use a different color or a darker shade of the body color to make them stand out.

How to Fix Common Dinosaur Drawing Mistakes

  • Head or Body Too Small: Dinosaurs should look big and strong! If your head or body looks too small, go back and make those initial shapes bigger in Step 1 and 2.
  • Spikes Not Pointy Enough: Spikes make a dinosaur look cool! If yours are too rounded, try making them more pointed in Step 4.
  • Tail Too Short: A dinosaur’s tail is long and curvy. Make sure yours is long enough to look impressive.
  • Missing Face Details: Don’t forget the eyes, nostrils, and smile to give your dinosaur a personality!

Helpful Dinosaur Drawing Tips and Tricks For Kids

  • Go with the Flow: The dinosaur’s body and tail are all about smooth, flowing lines. Try to use continuous pencil strokes to get that look.
  • Picture It: Imagine what your dinosaur would look like in real life. Would it be walking? Eating leaves? This can inspire your drawing!
  • Light Sketching: Always start by drawing lightly with your pencil so it’s easy to erase and fix mistakes. You can press harder once you’re happy with your lines.
